Skills Sessions

** Currently, these sessions are only open to current PREVAIL players. **

** The registration link will only be found in the PREVAIL BAND Group. **

PREVAIL’s skill-specific sessions are small group training opportunities to expand knowledge on the technical abilities needed for volleyball.

• Sessions are NOT designed for the beginner, unless where noted. Most sessions will focus on the intermediate or advanced athlete to train skills you may not receive in club or high school practices.
• Sessions are limited to 8 athletes.
• Sessions are offered randomly, and we encourage you to check back often to see the monthly lineup!
• AAU membership required for participation.

** You will receive direct communication with dates/times for each of your sessions once groups are established. Depending on registrations and coach availability, sessions may begin as early as April 2nd. **

Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays

Times: 4:30PM-5:30PM; 6:00PM-7:00PM; 7:30PM-8:30PM

Cost: $39 per session

Session Expectations and Skills Taught:

• Serving: The session will focus on teaching the overhand serve as well as serving specific spots on the court.

• Advanced Serving: The session will focus on teaching and refining the Top Spin or Jump Float style of serving.

• Liberos: The session will focus on the advanced skill of scoop defense (A defensive skill that allows a higher reaction time to dig a hard-driven ball) and teaching the split step (which is a little hop that players take to get a quick jump on receiving an incoming serve).

• Blocking/Transitions: The session will focus on teaching swing blocking and how to quickly transition from block to hitter.

• Middle Hitting: The session will focus on effective ways to attack the ball out of the middle, with focus on the 1 set, slide and block to transition concepts.

• Outside & Opposite Hitting:  The session will focus on effective ways to attack the ball out of the outside and opposite positions, with emphasis on block to transition, attacking line and hard cross, and quicker plays (ie 3, B1, 1 etc).

• Defense: The session will focus on the standard skills for volleyball with reinforcement of defensive positioning.

• Setting: The session will focus on standard skills for proper setting form and positioning. Setting practice of the 1, 4, and 5 set will be reviewed.

• Advanced Setting: The session will focus on the form and positioning needed to set the slide, shoot, pipe, and other advanced plays while reviewing setter decision-making.

• Serve Receive: The session will focus on the form and positioning needed to properly receive the ball to target from a standing overhand or standing float serve.

Adult Club Teams for Nationals

Calling all Adults! It is time to prepare for the 2024 USAV Adult Nationals competition in Columbus, OH and we are looking for adult athletes to fill our teams!

Tryouts for Men’s & Women’s divisions will occur March 30th, 2024 & March 31st, 2024.

Men’s

• March 30th, 2024, 9AM – 11AM

Women’s

• March 30th, 2024, Noon – 2PM

Requirements for Tryouts:

• Must have an active USAV Athlete Membership or Tryout Membership
• $25 Tryout Fee Paid

Season Information

• Season Fees = $275 per athlete
  • Fees cover: Entrance to tournament, 2 Practices per week, Uniforms, equipment and more!
  • Fees do not cover: Any additional tournament requested; hotel or flight fees.
• Season runs April 1st, 2024, to June 1st, 2024.
• USAV Nationals Dates: May 24th to May 29th, 2024

• Lunch on your own: 11:30-1:00 (Lunch on your own.
